Rubies
The Expensive Commodity
Rubies have a certain mystery all of their own. The Diamond and Rubies Earrings in White Gold above would typically cost over £400 and they certainly look stunning.
That is why Rubies hold their own when it comes to amazing stylish and beaytiful jewellery. Worn in a formal environment, Rubies make a profound statement.
The most important factor in the value of a ruby is colour. The top qualities are as red as you can imagine that contains an intensive pure spectral hue without any overtones of brown or blue. The intensity of colour of a fine ruby is such that it seems like the embers of a fire that will just not go out. When caught by sunlight, a ruby gives off a stunning glow that seems to reflect the whole spectrum of light.
Rubies are typically found in Burma, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Madagascar, Tanzania, Kenya and India.
Sri Lankan and Burmese stones have a pinkish tinge similar to the item above. The Pamir Mountains of the CIS offer the very best stones.
The best rubies generally available however are from Burma (Myanmar) which have some of the oldest Ruby mines in the world.
